Finally Made Up Your Mind

All things aside, you made up your mind to work outside the Philippines. You finally decided to embrace the painful truth that not every body is destined to have a bright future in our country - that we have to look for it else where. You are now ready to be called "OFW", "Overseas Foreign Worker" and the most dramatic of them all "Ang Bagong Bayani".

Before this blog tackles about the ins and out of working in Singapore, let's check the list below of how ready you are - really.
  1. From the house -
    • To say your goodbyes and few instructions without wanting to unpack your luggage again.
    • To set your foot outside that door without throwing a second look at the precious faces standing on the door
    • To admit that you are leaving because you hate the place you and your family is currently living.
  2. At the airport -
    • To say your goodbyes and few instructions without wanting to load your luggage again in the taxi or jeepney that brought you in the airport
    • To set your foot on the passenger entrance without throwing a second look at the precious faces who fetch you to the airport
    • To admit that you are leaving because you have to.
  3. Outside Philippines
    • To eat without the people you used to eat with.
    • To sleep without the people you used to sleep with.
    • To go around the place without the people you used to go around with.
    • To be satisfied kissing the people you used to kiss in front of a webcam.
    • To be contented hugging the people you used to hug in front of a webcam.
The list may be a bit personal as they were mine. I had them before deciding to to work here in Singapore. So I thought they could help you assess your readiness. Because Singapore may be a little near to Pinas and if you have enough resources, you can always go back if homesickness strikes you in the middle of your sleep.

Working abroad and leaving the ones dear to us is a very tough decision. Yes, you can look back and you will have your second thoughts but you have to be emotionally ready. Why? The more stable you are with your decision, the more stable the people or the life or the financial condition of the ones you left behind will be. Your emotional readiness will help them cope with this drastic change in their lives.
